Last week marked the successful conclusion of our Femme Forward Startup Founders training program –  a transformative 9 week journey filled with valuable exchanges and insights.

At Femme Forward, our mission has been to give our participants the tools and skills necessary to embark on a career in technology, establish a digital startup, or succeed within the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Throughout the course, we explored deeply into crucial topics surrounding women’s empowerment in the fields of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Specifically, we initiated an exploration into the world of startups, drawing valuable lessons from success stories. The modules covered key aspects such as lean start-ups, business model canvas, circular economy, design thinking, marketing, legal fundamentals for startups, artificial intelligence, and much more.

A distinctive feature of our program was providing participants with the opportunity to apply these learnings through self-proposed projects, receiving valuable feedback from industry experts and mentors.

We are proud of  the achievements of our participants and are thrilled to have contributed to their professional and personal growth. A special thanks goes to all the teachers who shared their passion and vision with us during this journey. Their expertise improved the significance of the lessons, contributing to the overall success of the program.

In 2023, women still represent a small percentage of corporate technical roles and technology start-up founders. The Femme Forward initiative aims to break down this gender gap. In the following few lines, we will explain the Future Start-up Founders training course: a unique opportunity for women aspiring to be part of the tech entrepreneurial world.

Tackling the gender gap in the technology sector

Astonishingly, only 8% of European companies’ technical roles in cloud computing are held by women [Src. McKinsey]. Furthermore, the number of women founders of tech start-ups in Europe remains shockingly low, below 15% [Src. Startup Genome]. This situation highlights the urgency of breaking gender barriers within the technology sector.

The Femme Forward opportunity

Femme Forward’s Future Start-up Founders course offers women the opportunity to receive free training in technology entrepreneurship: a 60-hour programme over 8 weeks with content delivered online in live and asynchronous mode.

What you will learn

You will have the opportunity to effectively conceive and present your business idea, from the field validation of assumptions to elaborating a solid business model, from refining product development strategies to marketing tactics and the necessary technical fundamentals. 

A comprehensive training experience

The training will not be limited to theoretical lectures. Through interactive workshops, live and asynchronous lectures, tutorials, customised mentoring sessions and participation in talks and networking events, you will acquire both technical and soft skills. This holistic approach will comprehensively prepare you for the challenges of the entrepreneurial world.

Femme Forward is supported by the EU

The Future Start-up Founders course takes place within Femme Forward, an EU-funded project under the Erasmus+ programme and has a consortium of 15 partners, including TOP-IX, from industry, technology and education in 8 European states.

The training will start on 6 November and will welcome 30 participants. No specific entry skills or prerequisites are required other than curiosity, dedication and the ambition to build one’s future as a technology worker and entrepreneur. The first phase of Impact Deal Acceleration Program ended with the Bootcamp at OGR, culminating in the Data Pitch on Friday, July 7.

The 15 participating enterprises had the opportunity to gather valuable suggestions, pieces of advice, and explore potential collaborations. Additionally, they took part in two different workshops. The first one “Data Value for Social Enterprises” was delivered by Federico Bartolomucci – POLIMI. The second one, “Pitching for Purpose”, was led by Alessia Gianoncelli – EVPA.

The Bootcamp reached its climax with the Data Pitch, where enterprises presented their pitches in front of Impact Deal Partners and particularly the Data Club Members.

The final natural goal for the startups was to secure the opportunity to enter the second stage of the program and therefore to further collaborate with the Data Club.

Volvero – Italy: “Towards a more efficient and sustainable mobility”

Xnext – Italy: “Developing the most advanced real-time inspection system”

The Kick Off for the second stage of the Program is scheduled for September 14th.

OGR Torino, Fondazione CRT and Microsoft present Impact Deal; an acceleration program for European enterprises with a social and environmental mission.

The new data-collaboration ecosystem will offer to the selected companies training, mentorship, resources, and datasets (open and proprietary) coming from a group of private and public entities (The Data Club).

With Impact Deal, OGR Torino, Fondazione CRT and Microsoft are launching a system of concrete actions to enhance data and data skills, based on the awareness that today any public or private, profit or non-profit initiative needs to set its own measurable objectives towards an effective long-term impact.

The project, developed in partnership with TOP-IX, The Data Science for Social Good Center (c/o OGR Torino), Impact Hub, Ashoka and The Data Appeal Company will be held in the OGR Tech inside the OGR Torino’s hub for innovation and applied research.

The approach will be open, neutral and multilateral, and will allow business players, traditional investors, mentors, experts in Data Science to meet each other, in the perspective of economic, social and environmental sustainability and aiming at developing specialized professionals.

The starting point of the initiative will be the call for impact enterprises – open from February 3 to April 3, 2022 – where a maximum of 12 European companies will be selected to access the acceleration program, divided into two phases.

The first phase, lasting about two months, will focus on a journey to provide specific skills in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and impact entrepreneurship.

In the second phase, lasting about 3 months, 3 to 5 startups will be selected and the aim will be on accelerating the business through the development of real projects and solutions enabled by data thanks to the mentorship and strategic collaborations.

The final step will be a Demo Day where the “accelerated” companies will show their progresses to an audience of potential investors with a particular vocation for impact investing.

Torino City Lab has created a perfect environment to support companies and startups to test innovative solutions in a real context. The initiative allows ideas to be developed and improved almost in real time to meet current urban challenges.

Torino City Lab is an initiative-platform where citizens, companies and public administration can explore and experiment together innovative products, technologies and services in order to test its functionality and utility for end users and assess the impacts on quality of life.

Torino offers the entire city for develop new solutions, providing a system of physical, technological infrastructures, relations and know-how to experiment and then scale up the proposed innovations.

Promoted by the City of Turin, it involves a vast local partnership of subjects from public and private sectors interested in supporting and growing the local innovation ecosystem. TOP-IX Consortium is part of TCL network.

TOP-IX proudly becomes “Startup Europe Ambassador” in Italy . The Startup Europe Ambassadors are a group of key influencers in the European startup ecosystems to provide information and advice about the European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative. The objective is to democratise the startup phenomenon so that every citizen has a fair chance to become a successful entrepreneurs wherever they are located in Europe. The ambassadors will also help startups in their growth phase to have access to all the opportunities offered at European level. All Startup Europe Ambassadors are publicly presented today at the “Startup Europe Campfire” held in Paris.

Throughout the years, European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative has become a top reference in the European startup related field, by supporting directly around 60 local ecosystems and over 750 startups to grow beyond borders. The mission of Startup Europe is to build a Startup Continent by connecting pools of talent. The initiative encourages entrepreneurship, startup creation and growth; and connects startups, investors, accelerators, corporates, universities and the media through an array of grassroots initiatives or networks.

TOP-IX is part of the new Startup Europe Horizon 2020 funded project OPEN MAKER which is publicly launched today during the Startup Europe Campfire in Paris.
The role of TOP-IX is to co-organize events and promotion, to manage the dissemination activities.

In an ever-changing European startup ecosystem the Startup Europe initiative has designed the group of its Ambassadors to democratise the startup phenomenon so that every citizen has a fair chance to become a successful entrepreneurs wherever they are located in Europe. The role of the ambassadors is to provide information and advice about the European Commission’s Startup Europe initiative. In addition, the ambassadors will also help startups in their growth phase to have access to all the opportunities offered at European level.

The Startup Europe Ambassadors will actively contribute to the visibility of Startup Europe activities at the local level by acting as a key information point in their countries and also as connector for the local ecosystem with the other startups ecosystems across Europe. The first members of this group are the organisations who have been selected through the evaluation of proposals of European Commission’s Horizon 2020 ICT 32 call, as well as partners of European funded projects WeP-UP or OpenMaker.

OpenMaker, the project funded by the European Community that boasts TOP-IX among the official partners, selected the winners of the call for proposal closed last October 2017.

Starting from the 137 received applications, 20 projects have now been selected to receive a contribution of € 20,000 each. The contribution is aimed at helping the teams in kicking off their ideas, reinventing traditional manufacturing production and projecting us into a sustainable future.

An additional special prize was also assigned by the coordinators, that completes the panel of winners.

Developers, designers and business, marketing and communication experts are invited to participate in the sixth Turin Startup Weekend which will take place from March 4th to March 6th  2016.

The event, hosted in I3P – Innovative Companies Incubator of the Politecnico di Torino, located in via Pier Carlo Boggio 59 – will be dedicated to the retail topic. The three days will be totally dedicated to develop business ideas and to win the prize for the best innovative project. In addition there will be a special prize for ideas aimed at innovating the food retail market.
Cean will be the main sponsor of the event and will provide participants with its expertise in the sector. TOP-IX Consortium confirms its support to the Turin Startup Weekend, as Silver Sponsor.
The program. The event beginning is scheduled for 5:30pm on Friday, March 4th: everyone has an idea might present it in a 1 minute pitch, the most voted ideas will be developed during the weekend. Finally, Sunday afternoon, the participating teams will present their projects in 5 minutes. The jury will evaluate the projects and will decide the three winners.
