TOP-IX is on Service DB, the first portal developed in Italy and dedicated to the research and offer of Wholesale services.

The goal is to have a neutral place where members of the IXPs can exhibit their services, promote offers and easily get in touch with other companies operating in the telecommunications sector.

The TOP-IX infrastructure allows, through private VLANs, the connection between those who offer and those who buy the service, acting as a simple technological intermediary. The contract takes place between the consortium members, without any commercial intermediation, but with the involvement of the operational structure in configurating the necessary VLANs and ports. Consortium members are free to choose whether to sell / buy services on a single port (appropriately sized) or on dedicated ports.

“Namex created Service DB to make it available to the community of Italian and international IXPs and Internet Service Providers – says Maurizio Goretti, CEO Namex -. TOP-IX is the first IXP besides Namex to be present on the portal, their adhesion confirms the interest in this new tool. We hope that soon other IXPs will join the initiative to make the portal more and more useful and interesting for ISPs”

Andrea Casalegno, TOP-IX Executive Director, explains: “TOP-IX has been making a Marketplace available to its members for a long time. This allowed the growth of many local operators, benefiting from the capillary presence of TOP-IX in the territory. Exposing these services on ServiceDB will increase the possibilities for local operators and provide larger players with an additional market opportunity. We are therefore particularly happy to use the portal created by Namex and to contribute to its development”

Some of the services offered are, for example:

• direct and fast Ethernet interconnections, point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, or VPLS, both national and international, in order to connect company offices geographically distributed anywhere in the world;
• ethernet interconnections to the major Clouds (such as AWS, Azure, Softlayer etc …) to improve performance compared to their normal Internet connection and increase security from DDoS attacks;
• remote peering services to other Italian and foreign IXPs;
• protection services from DDoS attacks.

The TOP-IX Consortium, second Italian Internet Exchange, already present in Milan with its own infrastructure, has activated a new Point of Presence in the DATA4 data center in Cornaredo (MI).

The decision is even the result of requests from the Turin consortium members, who see the new PoP as an opportunity to increase the possibilities of interconnection with the OTTs present in the Milan area and to improve the reliability of the same interconnections. «The presence of TOP-IX in the DATA4 Campus offers new business opportunities for the members of the Consortium – says Andrea Casalegno, Tech Director at TOP-IX –. This opens up interesting opportunities for new services available through our Marketplace».

The partnership with DATA 4 was signed with a view to strengthening cooperation on the national territory between Internet traffic interchange points and neutral data centers, to support telecommunications operators. «We are particularly proud to host the new TOP-IX Point of Presence on our Campus – says Davide Suppia, Country Manager at Data4 ITALIA –.
